Restaurant review: Majestic spot on River Bann offers up Michelin star quality with pub grub prices

Cod, served at Lir

Lucy Dougan

You only turn 40 once, but you can easily stretch this out to two months of lunches and dinners if you have a circle of particularly greedy friends. And so I set off to celebrate once again, hopping aboard the train to Coleraine for a visit to Lir.

Situated a 10-minute walk from Coleraine station, Lir sits on the edge of the River Bann in a beautifully designed space that hums with the contented chatter of friends and families, enjoying the attentive and expert service of a team who are clearly enthused by what they do. Specialising in locally sourced fish, the menu is a joy to behold.
