It didn’t take a genius to predict that Jeffrey Donaldson’s appearance in court on sex offence charges last week would attract a frenzy of interest from the media and the public. But obviously the PSNI wasn’t quite prepared.

For their policing operation around Newry courthouse last week was something of a shambles and allowed a potentially dangerous situation to develop in which someone could easily have been hurt.
